Definitions
Culinary preparation that is often emblematic of American cuisine. It is composed of a small ground beef patty broiled, grilled or quickly pan-fried and served on a bun, often garnished with melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, sauce and sometimes topped with a fried egg. The dish owes it name to the city of Hamburg in Germany – it is moreover called hambourgeois – and was introduced to the United States by German immigrants. It is known worldwide today.
