scabies (mange or sarcoptic mange or notoedric mange) (rabbit)

Mange of the body and head is a zoonotic parasitic infection caused by mites such as Sarcptes scabiei (causing sarcoptic mange) or Notoedres cati (causing notoedric mange). This disease is rare. The parasite causes itching of the head, leading to hairy lesions with scales and crusts. If left untreated, this can lead to death. Transmission is by direct contact.
