pododermatitis (rabbit)

Definitions
Pododermatitis, also known as ulcerative pododermatiti or sore hocks, is a very common disease in rabbit farming. The disease is caused by repeated pressure on the wire mesh due to immobility. Symptoms include trampling, weight loss and abortion in pregnant females. There are three stages of lesions. Stage 1 presents depilation, subacute inflammation of the skin and hyperkeratosis. In stage 2, small bleeding or crusting sores appear. Finally, stage 3 is characterised by complicated healing and chronic inflammation.
