Preferred name

mycotoxicosis (rabbit)

Definitions
As mycotoxicoses are directly linked to plant growing conditions and food storage, they vary from region to region and from year to year. Different toxins cause toxicity. Aflatoxin, from the fungus Aspergillus, causes coma and death, and can be accompanied by secondary infection. Trichothecenes secreted by Fusarium cause malnutrition. Ochratoxin, produced by Aspergillus or Penicillium, causes malformations in embryos but is fairly rare in rabbits. Finally, zearalenone, secreted by Fusarium roseum, causes hyperoestrogenism, abortions, uterine hypertrophy and death.
